IWE Rear Ends Only We Have Everything......Almost
I.W.E. Rear Ends Only was born in 1985 in the back bay of a Husky gas station, now the site of Metro town and a Red Robin restaurant. The company moved to 7140 Russell Avenue in Burnaby in 1987, and has been here ever since, providing a full range of rear end parts and services for street, track and off-road applications.
I.W.E., Ian Wood Enterprises, was conceived from J.P.S., John Player Special, on a Lotus Ian Wood owned. It became I.W.S., then I.W.E. The letters first appeared with the help of friends John Surridge and Lorne Stead, as artists, on a March 72S Sports racer Ian owned and campaigned locally. He had some small successes with the car, including twice posting the fastest time of the day at Knox Mountain, Kelowna, and also a first and a second respectively in a three and a seven hour Enduro at Westwood. Racing has always been a big part of I.W.E. We have sponsored events like the Ioco Hill-climb, Knox Mountain Hill-climb, the Wicker Basket Ice Race Series at Ashcroft, the American Cities Racing League at the Vancouver Indy, the Historic Races at Mission hosted by the Vintage Racing Club Of B.C., mini-stock cars on the oval at Western Speedway and of course they were behind the SCCBC's Invitational Race at Indy with their familiar windshield decals up front. Ian Wood loves the sport of road racing and its strong camaraderie. Although he has successfully driven a variety of cars in numerous races and venues over the years, Wood has no real aspirations to ascend to the higher ranks of the racing world. He is first and foremost a club racer, doing it strictly for the fun and sense of community that characterize amateur racing. And he takes more pride in his off-track awards than his podium finishes. Wood was voted Sports Person of the Year in the American Cities Racing League in 1994, and his name has been enshrined in the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame on the Peter Brandt Trophy for his contribution to Motorsport in B.C. I.W.E. continues their involvement in sponsorship of local motor racing and ice racing. Ian campaigned a vintage CAN AM Rawlson CR-11 up and down the west coast including a trip to New Zealand in 2008 and a jaunt to Watkins Glen at NY and Mosport ONT. Ian is in his 6th year acting as chairmen of the Historic Motor Races at the Rivers Edge Road Course in Mission B.C and promoted the joint Westwood 50 reunion event in July 2009. |
